Problem Based Learning Assignment

Directions:
Please read the following and as a group, develop a sample PBL. Each group should use the appropriate wiki page to post their assignment and resources. During the development of your PBL, be sure to use the wikispace discussion board for sharing links, ideas and documenting your groups progression. For helpful tips on wikispace editing and the use of the discussion board, please see links in navigation toolbar.

Step 1
Develop a scenario/problem related to current curriculum for
students to solve

Example:

There is a retention basin on the side of the new high school. The science department wants to put a wetland in the retention basin. The school district doesn't want to provide funding for implementation of the wetland. Convince the district why a wetland is not only an environmentally sustainable solution, enhancing our LEED certification, but will also provide cross-cirricular learning opportunities for all. For your final product, propose a design for the new wetland with detailed specs, costs, benefits, and uses
.

Previous PBLs include:
Polar Bear PBL Weather Busters PBL Cuban Travel PBL Retention Basin PBL

Step 2
Create a series of guiding/scaffolding questions to assist students in developing solutions/answers to stated scenario/problem

Examples:

What are some main advantages to constructing a wetland on the school property?
What native plants and animals would be found in a PA wetland?
What are the costs associated with the construction of a wetland?
What types of classes could be held at the wetland?
What can students learn from a wetland?

Step 3
Supply supportive web resources pertaining to each guiding/scaffolding question. Web resources should include: hyperlinks to valid educational resources, embedded educational videos, links to webquests, embedded slideshare files, images/diagrams etc.
